Where Culture Meets Sustainability
As conversations around sustainability continue to shape the future of design and construction, we were proud to support a recent low carbon materials launch event focused on building a greener North East. It was an event grounded in innovation, but also in responsibility. Our role was to ensure that the catering reflected those same values.
The event carried a sense of significance, with conversations around low carbon innovation gaining increasing national attention, including from figures such as Prince William, who has been a vocal advocate for environmental solutions and sustainable development. His ongoing work has helped bring visibility to the importance of building a more responsible future, making events like this feel even more relevant and timely.
Low carbon materials are at the heart of transforming the built environment. From alternative concretes to recycled and bio based resources, these materials are designed to significantly reduce emissions across their lifecycle, helping the construction industry move closer to net zero. With the built environment responsible for a substantial share of carbon emissions, innovation in this space is not just important, it is essential.
For an event centred on sustainability, it felt natural that the food offering should align with that vision.
We curated a fully plant based menu designed to minimise environmental impact while celebrating global flavours. A vegan spread is not only inclusive, but also one of the most effective ways to reduce the carbon footprint of catering. By focusing on seasonal ingredients and diverse culinary traditions, we created a menu that was both conscious and vibrant.
Guests were invited to experience dishes inspired by cuisines from around the world. From rich and spiced curries to fresh salads, roasted vegetables, and globally influenced small plates, the food became part of the wider narrative of the event. It reflected the idea that sustainability does not mean limitation. It can be creative, abundant, and deeply enjoyable.
There is also something powerful about the connection between food and innovation. Just as low carbon materials rethink how we build our physical spaces, sustainable catering reimagines how we gather within them. Both challenge traditional approaches and offer new ways forward that are better for people and the planet.
Throughout the event, there was a clear sense of alignment. The materials being discussed, whether low carbon concrete alternatives or recycled resources, represent a shift towards more responsible construction practices. In the same way, the menu demonstrated how everyday choices, even what we eat at events, can contribute to that broader shift.
Catering this launch was about more than serving food. It was about reinforcing a message. Sustainability works best when it is considered holistically, across every detail.
By bringing together low carbon innovation and a globally inspired vegan menu, the event became a reflection of what a greener future can look like. Thoughtful, collaborative, and grounded in action.
